About PublicnEUro
PublicnEUro is a repository for human brain-imaging research data, including MRI, PET, EEG, MEG and related data. It is operated by the Neurobiology Research Unit at Rigshospitalet, Region Hovedstaden, Denmark.
PublicnEUro supports both open and controlled access. Every published dataset receives a persistent identifier and a public catalogue record. Metadata remain openly available so that datasets can be discovered, evaluated and cited even when participant-level data require controlled access.
For controlled datasets, users are identified and must accept the dataset-specific Data User Agreement. Additional safeguards may apply to international transfers. This allows research data to be shared as openly as possible while protecting participants and respecting the requirements of the responsible data controller.
What PublicnEUro provides
For data depositors
- BIDS validation and optional curation;
- public dataset metadata and a DOI for each published version;
- open or controlled-access distribution;
- management and recording of access requests;
- machine-readable Digital Use Conditions derived from the authoritative licence or Data User Agreement;
- online storage, archival storage or persistent metadata-only publication.
For data users
- a searchable public catalogue;
- clear access and reuse conditions before requesting data;
- browser and command-line retrieval;
- persistent citation information;
- dataset status and retrieval information.

The institution responsible for a dataset remains its data controller and determines the permitted uses of the data. PublicnEUro normally processes and distributes the dataset according to the controller's documented instructions. Registered users and their institutions are responsible for complying with the applicable licence, Data User Agreement and data-protection requirements.
PublicnEUro also acts as data controller for the personal information needed to operate user accounts and provide repository services.
The authors are responsible for pseudonymising their data and providing a Data User Agreement that is GDPR- and nationally lawful. PublicnEUro is responsible for data sharing, ensuring that the Data User Agreement and Standard Contractual Clauses for non-EU users/countries without an adequate level of protection are signed before giving access, as well as ensuring overall data security.
Governance
PublicnEUro is governed through an Oversight Committee, a Management Committee and data-protection oversight. These bodies provide strategic direction, manage repository operations, assess risks and review the sustainability of the service. More on governance structure here.
